Three beats, one of which is talking. Nothing here asks you to decide anything, name anything, or file anything.
Press
Squeeze the Action Button. Recording starts on the press – there is no app to find and nothing to wait for.
Talk
Ramble, contradict yourself, trail off. Thirty seconds out loud is a paragraph you were never going to type.
Tap once
One tap when you are done talking – the only screen you touch in the whole thing. Everything after it runs in the background while the phone goes back in your pocket.
Another thought on the next street is another press – run the Shortcut again and it lands as its own note. From there it is the same pipeline as anything you type: the note gets structured into what you have to do, what is worth keeping in your own words, and the other angle you might have missed – and it counts toward the letters that come back to you.
Setup is about a minute.
Most of that minute is the file opening. You are not building an automation – Notka ships the finished Shortcut and you tell it who you are.
Generate your token
One tap on the setup page. It identifies your account to the Shortcut, and it is shown exactly once – copy it before you leave the page.

Open the file on your phone
Download Notka.shortcut and open it. The Shortcuts app asks for your token, you paste, and that is the whole configuration.

Decide where the press lives
Settings → Action Button → Shortcut → Notka. No Action Button on your phone? Add the Shortcut to your Home Screen instead and the first icon you see is a microphone.

You need an account for the token, and that is the only reason this page sends you into the app.
Pick where the press lives.
iOS will run a Shortcut from any of these. You only need one – the point is that it is never “open the app, find the button”.
iPhone 15 Pro and up. The fastest path there is: a squeeze while the phone is still coming out of your pocket.
Any iPhone on iOS 16 or later. The Shortcut sits where an app icon would, and tapping it starts recording instead of opening anything.
Ask for the Shortcut by its name and it runs hands-free – the version of this that works while you are driving.
Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap. Two taps on the back of the phone, if you would rather not learn a new button.
If you are not on an iPhone.
The one-press Shortcut is Apple’s automation format, so it is iPhone and iPad today. Two things still hold everywhere.

Install Notka from your browser menu
The home-screen icon opens straight into the recorder rather than a dashboard, so capture is a tap and a talk. It is one step more than a squeeze, and it is the closest thing that exists until there is a Notka recipe for Android automation.

Typing gets everything voice gets
Same structuring, same letters, and text is unlimited on the free plan. Open-plan office, quiet train, someone asleep in the next room – the ritual survives without your voice.
The part where you push back
Fair objections, answered straight.
Is it listening when I haven’t pressed anything?
No. The Shortcut only runs when you trigger it, and the microphone is live only for that run – you end it with the tap. Notka has no background listener, on any platform, and there is nothing to leave switched on by accident.
What happens to the audio?
It is transcribed, then it is gone. The recording exists just long enough to become words – Notka never stores your voice, whether it arrived through the Shortcut or the app.
What is the token, and what if someone got it?
It is how the Shortcut proves the note is yours – it lives inside the Shortcut on your phone and nowhere else, which is why we show it once. Anyone holding it could add notes to your account, so if you ever suspect that, generate a new one: doing so revokes the old token immediately, and the only cost is pasting the new one back into the Shortcut.
Do I need an iPhone 15 Pro?
Only for the Action Button. Everything else – Home Screen, Siri, Back Tap – works on iOS 16 and later, and the press is the same press.
What if I have no signal?
The Shortcut uploads as it finishes, so with no connection it will tell you it failed rather than pretending. That is the one case where the installed app is better: it queues the note on the device and syncs it the moment you are back online.
How long until the note is actually there?
The notification lands in around ten seconds, and the structured note is in your base by the time you look. The letters that build on it arrive on their own schedule – the daily one the next morning.
Your thoughts stay yours.
Your voice is transcribed, then deleted – there is no bucket of recordings. Your words never train anyone's models. Export is free, and leaving is allowed.
